  • (1888PressRelease) February 28, 2025 - Geneva – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 024.25, detailing the US CPSC’s final rule adopting, with modifications, ASTM F406-24 (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full-Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards), as its mandatory safety standard for non-full-size baby cribs.

The direct final rule, published on January 31, 2025, updates 16 CFR 1220, the safety standard for non-full-size baby cribs. Modifications to ASTM F406-24 are incorporated that exclude sections that apply specifically to play yards.

    The following changes are included:
    • Updated definitions for ‘play yard/non-full-size crib dependent accessory’ and ‘full accessory’
    • Revised section 9.6.3 regarding strangulation warning labels
    • Non-substantive changes made to other sections of marking, labeling and instructional literature based on recommendations from ASTM's Ad Hoc Language Task Group

Barring significant adverse comments by March 3, 2024, the rule will become effective on April 5, 2025.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to inform stakeholders about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 024.25 includes the definitions for a non-full-size baby crib and a link to a read-only copy of the standard.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 024.25 for more details.
