Digital World Construction Releases newest educational simulation, Statecraft
Digital World Construction, a web-based political science simulation developer, today announces its first product Statecraft, an immersive International Relations simulation for universities, is in its final stages of Beta testing and will be ready for spring semester classrooms.
- (1888PressRelease) October 16, 2010 - Statecraft is an immersive simulation that allows students to experience the challenges, opportunities, and complexities of international relations in a very vivid, intense, and personal way. In the world of Statecraft students take the reins of power, becoming presidents, kings, military dictators, Secretaries of State and Defense, intelligence chiefs, and political advisers (among other roles). You are free to use your country's diplomatic, economic, and military resources to build or to destroy, to work for the betterment of all countries or to focus on maximizing your own country's wealth, power, and quality of life.
Who better to ask about Statecraft than a student that has used it in their class, like Sasha, from James Madison University, who acted as Secretary of State for her country Li Gugah said "It's hard to imagine a better way to understand the implications of anarchy than trying to solve a global problem without any power to force countries to make sacrifices. Because of the format of the simulation, we saw how difficult it is to do things like help save the environment, due to the fact that costs are distributed unevenly. There wasn't a moment involving the simulation that was not exciting. The degree to which it was enjoyable was uncharacteristic of any academic activity."
For further information on Statecraft please visit our website at www.statecraftsim.com to learn more about this exciting simulation: you will find a discussion of its pedagogy, a Q&A with Dr. Keller, the creator of Statecraft, and student testimonials.
Statecraft is an active learning tool designed to draw students into an addictive "virtual world," replicate key features of world politics, and make abstract concepts and theories vivid and personally relevant for students. Created by Dr. Jonathan Keller of James Madison University, Statecraft has been tested and refined in the classroom over the past 11 years, and has been designed to maximize both pedagogical effectiveness and user-friendliness for instructors.
