- Sacramento, CA (1888PressRelease) April 27, 2013 - DiD Publishing to release first graphic novel for digital download from Amazon and iBookstore in May
DID Publishing's first graphic novel for the year will be available in electronic format for the Amazon Kindle starting in May. Their first project entitled "Mute Elation - A Street Wolf Graphic Novel" resurrects Nathan Blackhorse and many of the original characters from the Street Wolf comic book series from the 1980s. The Company's first entry into the comic book marketplace for 2013 made its debut in April.
The decision to publish the graphic novel as a three part miniseries echoes the original concept over 20 years ago. The three-part miniseries Street Wolf met with critical acclaim. The stories were notorious for being controversial and gritty at a time when crime comics were rare. The hero is Nathan Blackhorse a Native American crime fighter based in New York City. He is a vigilante works within the law to bring justice to the poor, the dispossessed and the forgotten.
The creators of Street Wolf introduced the character at a time when ethnic and monority cirmefighters were a rarity in comics. The idea of two African American creators developing a Native American comic hero was an oddity. Writer Mark-Wayne Harris developed the character as a counterpoint to the nihilistic superheroes of the 80s who began to eschew the traditional moral code of comic book heroes for the "Dirty Harry approach" to justice. Harris produced a complex character with a dark past who sought to help others as a way of dealing with his own inner demons. Dennis Morales Francis reintroduces the readers to Nathan Blackhorse's New York neighborhood.
The new 80 page full-color graphic novel is currently available on Amazon.com as a paperback edition. The strategy behind publishing the story in three parts for the Kindle allows readers to sample the first book free of charge. The second and third installment of the Kindle version of Mute Elation appears simultaneously in May for $.99 each.
Plans are in place to produce the three-part miniseries for Apple's iBookstore later in the summer. Dennis Morales Francis, publisher of DID Publishing has three additional properties in the works for 2013. The next project already underway is Death Squad 7, slated for the summer as a six issue miniseries. Plans are already in progress to revive another 1980s classic; Jax and the Hellhound and the Company promises to reintroduce Major Lancer and The Starlight Squadron for Christmas.
DID Publishing have chosen to enter the comic book market after a decade of publication design and consultation. "My goal was to get back to what I really enjoy most; comic book storytelling," said publisher Dennis Morales Francis. The company proposed a schedule of four graphic novels a year to be distributed in multiple formats. Each project will be available as a digital download, paperback and will be serialized on their respective web comic site. The paperback version of Mute Elation can be purchased on Amazon.com.
