  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) April 17, 2010 - Over 75 films from around the world are scheduled to be screened at the historic, art deco style Orinda Theatre. Diablo Magazine is supporting CAIFF through Q&A sessions at select performances with Peter Crooks, Senior Editor at Diablo magazine. In addition to Diablo's Q&A sessions, the publication will be supporting CAIFF through promotion and publicity to alert Diablo magazine's audience and the general public to this fascinating and unique event.

"The California Independent Film Festival is one of my very favorite East Bay events every year-it's a wonderful showcase for independent features and shorts, fascinating documentaries, and talented artists," says Diablo's senior editor Peter Crooks, who is one of the festival's judges. "I'm particularly excited about this year's festival moving to the beautiful Orinda Theatre-it's the best possible venue to showcase these films." Peter will be holding Q&A sessions with members of the films: The Lightkeepers, Six Sex Scenes and a Murder, Race to Nowhere, and Oakland Be Mine.

Commenting on the 12th Annual CAIFF, Beau Behan, Festival Program & Promotions Director stated: "A filmic conversation is universal and transcends cultural barriers. It depicts a language that is spoken by all. This is the core of our commitment to inspire, to educate, and to entertain film lovers from around the world."

The festival begins with an Opening Night Reception and the screening of a family-comedic drama movie Expecting Mary. This is a Red Carpet event, which will be attended by Linda Gray ("Dallas"), Lainie Kazan ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding") and Olesya Rulin ( "High School Musical"). It is an opportunity for avid moviegoers to participate in a question and answer session with the cast after the screening.

On April 23rd, Richard Dreyfuss will make a special appearance for a Q&A session after the screening of his most recent movie, The Lightkeepers. This film features a lighthouse keeper dealing with the unexpected appearance of two attractive women moving into a nearby cottage for the summer. Other screenings on that evening will include, Six Sex Scenes and a Murder, which is an erotic thriller involving a cast of characters, each of whom offers an alibi to a nightclub murder-each suspect was involved in a kinky liaison at the time of the shooting, so they couldn't possibly be the killer. Race to Nowhere, a "must-see" creation is the brainchild of a local mother and filmmaker who will inspire you with interviews and personal commentaries from students, parents, school personnel, and behavior health providers. The film Oakland Be Mine was commissioned by the Port of Oakland. The 10-minute short tells the story of an African American woman named Oakland whose beauty bewitches a stranger.

On April 24th, a star-studded evening Gala will be held at the Blackhawk Auto Museum. CAIFF honors Academy Award Recipients Richard Dreyfuss and Producer Saul Zaentz with the festival's Golden Slate Awards. This event is otherwise known as the "Academy Awards of the Bay Area". During the gala event, Orinda native, pianist Chloe Pang performs excerpts from Prokofieff Concerto and Samuel Barber's Excursion No. 3.
CAIFF hosts the Iron Filmmaker Contest, an integral part of the festival for the past eight years. The contest challenges anyone with a video camera to create a three-minute film within 24 hours.

The Festival closes with the screening of Lovely Still, a holiday fable about a sad and lonely elderly man who finds love for the first time. The film stars Academy Award Winners, Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn. The festival is proud to screen this year's Academy Award winning animated short, Logorama, from CAIFF's Clermont-Ferrand Showcase. Also screening is a Bulgarian drama film, The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner. The film was selected among the top nine foreign films competing for "Best Foreign Language Film" in this year's 82nd Academy Awards.
