Developments in natural gas to be discussed at summit to be held in Turkey

  • (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2013 - Energy Information Administration (EIA) states that in 2009 in the USA, natural gas accounted for 76% of the residential and commercial sectors' energy needs, 40% of the industrial sector's energy needs, 18% of electricity generation and 3% of the transportation sector's energy needs. US has supplies of natural gas that are said to last for 200 years. Natural gas with roughly half the carbon dioxide emissions as other fossil fuels is one of the cleaner alternatives. The affluence of natural gas has transformed the way electricity is generated in the US. Dependence on coal as a resource has considerably reduced and more power plants are being operated on natural gas.

    Global Gas Opportunities Summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 1 - 3 October 2013 will gather global oil and gas professionals and discuss the latest developments in the gas industry. The summit will focus on political risk analysis in gas industry, designing efficient gas networks, projects on small scale LNG, managing pipeline integrity, alternative sources of clean energy and developments in shale gas. Representatives from TAQA Arabia, Gazprom Bank, Emirates Gas LLC, IGDAS Turkey, Naturgaz, Cedigaz, Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) and Petronas will be presenting at the summit.

    David M. Sweet, Executive Director from World Alliance for Decentralized Energy - WADE, USA will be addressing the attendees on regulatory framework and outlook for natural gas exports from the US and shale gas production. US Department of Energy states that production of shale gas is supposed to increase from 1.4 Tcf in 2007 to 4.8 Tcf in 2020. Along with focusing on these aspects Sweet will also participate in the panel discussions on developments in gas industry worldwide and shale gas. Sweet has an extensive experience in the field and prior to joining WADE, he served as a Director of the United States Energy Association, the US arm of the World Energy Council, as Executive Director of the International LNG Alliance and as Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Association of America.

    The summit will be held at Sheraton Istanbul Ataköy Hotel and is supported by Natural Gas Distribution Companies Association of Turkey - GAZBIR, Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas Association, Cedigaz, Gas Infrastructure Europe - GIE, World Pensions Council - WPC and Independent Power Producers Forum - IPPF. It will provide an excellent opportunity for the attendees to interact with industry peers from ADNOC Distribution, Indonesian Ministry, Gulf Gas, NNPC - Nigeria, Kuwait Gulf Oil Co., Brothers Gas Bottling & Dist.
