Des Moines Photographer Captures Cover of Iowa Gardening Magazine
Iowa photographer's macro photography of plants and flowers featured in Iowa Gardening magazine.
- Des Moines, IA (1888PressRelease) October 22, 2011 - The October/Fall 2011 issue of Iowa Gardening magazine highlights macro photography by local photographer, Cindy Skeie. In addition to the cover, which features Skeie's close-up of a prairie smoke flower, the magazine includes four pages of her close-ups of flowers and plants.
"Those of us who dig in the dirt are familiar with the experience of awe in the garden," says Iowa Gardening Editor Beth Wilson. "Cindy Skeie's photography takes us closer to reveal wonder where we hadn't even thought to look."
Currently, Cindy Skeie's photography is on display, until November 30, in the Show House Corridor at the Des Moines Botanical Center. 30% of the sale proceeds go to the Friends of the Botanical Center.
"I am often told that I have a unique perspective on nature. From flowers to bugs to fungus, macro photography allows me to discover the intricate beauty that exists everywhere in nature," stated Skeie. "I've discovered that up close, the brilliance of a flower from a different angle or stage of life, sap dripping from a tree or even moss growing on a dead log reveals itself in different ways. However, what is most rewarding is when someone thanks me for showing them how to look at their gardens or nature from a different viewpoint."
As well as being featured in Iowa Gardening Magazine and at the Botanical Center, Skeie's photos were recently exhibited at Art By Magic Studio Gallery in West Des Moines. Her photo titled "Lily Frog" was selected as one of the 10 Britannica Award winners in the Witness to Nature Photo Contest, sponsored by Encyclopedia Britannica and Ohio Distinctive Publishing, Inc.
Skeie will also be exhibiting her photography at Art on the Prairie on November 12th and 13th in Perry, Iowa. At the request of her many customers and admirers who purchased her 2011 calendar featuring her favorite floral photos, Skeie is offering two 2012 calendars for sale this year - "Beauty in the Backyard" and "What the…?"
