Dennis J. Butler Named Partner at Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel
Butler brings deep experience with patent prosecution and litigation, including the increasingly important area of post-grant review.
- (1888PressRelease) January 27, 2016 - The Philadelphia intellectual property attorneys of Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP are pleased to announce that Dennis J. Butler has been named a partner of the boutique IP law firm. Formerly an associate with the firm, Butler became a partner effective Jan. 1, 2016.
Focusing his practice primarily on patents, Butler has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Experienced in patent litigation as well, he is a member of a Panitch Schwarze team that has achieved a significant number of positive outcomes for clients before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
"The number of post-grant challenges to patents continues to grow in the wake of the America Invents Act, making experience with litigious re-examination increasingly important," said firm partner Ronald Panitch. "Dennis has demonstrated both his loyalty to the firm over the years and his value in both patent prosecution and litigation, and we are proud to welcome him to the ranks of the firm's partners."
With degrees in mechanical engineering, Butler went on to earn his law degree from Temple University while working full-time at Boeing Defense and Space Group as an engineer. He worked as an associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP before joining Panitch Schwarze.
Today, Butler focuses his practice on mechanical technologies, including medical devices, automotive mechanisms and cleantech technologies. He helps clients in a wide variety of technologies obtain patents for their valuable intellectual property and works to enforce and defend those rights in the courtroom through patent litigation, including inter partes review, post-grant review, covered business method review and ex parte re-examination.
"The right to protect intellectual property is perhaps the central force driving today's innovation economy," said Butler. "Helping clients secure patent protection and then ensuring that those rights are upheld is central to our mission here at Panitch Schwarze, and I am gratified to join the firm's partners in furthering that mission for years to come."
A graduate of Penn State University, Butler is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice in Delaware, Pennsylvania and various federal and appeals courts. He lives in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. To learn more about him, visit the firm's website.
