Demonstrations of Key Security Technologies for Building Affordable Security-Critical Systems
Lynx Software Technologies shows live demonstrations of the LynxOS 7.0 secure RTOS and LynxSecure 5.2 Separation Kernel Hypervisor.
- (1888PressRelease) October 10, 2014 - Lynx Software Technologies is exhibiting and demonstrating key security products at MILCOM 2014 in Baltimore from 6-8 October. With the theme of MILCOM being "Affordable Mission Success - Meeting the Challenge," Lynx will be showing how its two key security products can dramatically reduce the cost of building secure systems.
The first demonstration will show the LynxOS 7.0 RTOS, which has been recently enhanced to include built-in security functionality to offer medium assurance security controls, not usually available in an RTOS. This built-in security functionality will enable developers of real-time mission critical systems to easily control how their connected systems can be protected from adversaries, especially cyber threats that are becoming more prevalent in the global war on terror. The LynxOS 7.0 demonstration will focus on some key defense capabilities, such as access control lists, audit, quotas, local trusted path, account management, trusted menu manager, and OpenPAM, which, when used effectively in tactical mission systems, can help reduce the overall cost of protecting that system from attack.
The second demonstration will show the LynxSecure 5.2 separation kernel hypervisor, designed and built from the ground up to enable the development of high assurance systems. The separation kernel isolates CPU, memory and I/O, and utilizes virtualization technology to allow different operating systems and applications to reside in their own secure domains running on a single physical system. The use of virtualization has long been used to reduce costs by consolidating multiple physical platforms down to one, but the use of a separation kernel allows consolidation across multiple security levels. The small size and simple design of LynxSecure means that the attack surface of the system is much lower than when using traditional hypervisors, which raises the security posture dramatically, and also helps reduce the cost of security certifications and evaluations.
"Our two key security technologies can dramatically raise the security posture of mission critical systems while maintaining the performance and deterministic behavior of the system," said Will Keegan, Technical Director for Software Security at Lynx Software Technologies. "The cost to build these secure systems is also reduced, relying on advanced security functionality built-in to both products, and off the shelf certification artifacts."
About LynxOS 7.0
As more embedded devices connect to the Internet and each other, LynxOS 7.0 meets the increasing security requirements for real-time operating systems. LynxOS 7.0 brings military-grade security features into the operating system allowing developers to embed these features as they design their system, rather than adding security as an afterthought. This security can be used to protect both user accessible and also M2M based embedded devices, and includes features such as access control lists, audit, quotas, local trusted path, account management, trusted menu manager and OpenPAM.
About LynxSecure Separation Kernel Hypervisor
The separation kernel hypervisor is an award winning bare-metal architecture, designed from the ground up, that differentiates from type 1 hypervisors by removing the un-needed functionality from the "security sensitive" hypervisor mode, yet virtualizes guest OSes in a tiny stand-alone package. By combining the best-of-breed capabilities of the separation kernel technology and virtualization, LynxSecure provides unmatched capabilities to run one or more guest OS (real-time or GPOS) on embedded, desktop or server platforms. LynxSecure provides one of the most flexible secure virtualization solutions for use in Intel® architecture-based embedded and IT computer systems. Designed to maintain the highest levels of military security, LynxSecure offers an industry-leading combination of security with functionality, allowing developers and integrators to use the latest software and hardware technologies to build complex OS-based systems.
