Deep Blue Cable Appoints Nigel Bayliff to the Board
Aqua Comms CEO Will Advise on Deployment of the Deep Blue Subsea Cable System.
- (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2017 - SAINT LUCIA - Deep Blue Cable, the developer, owner and operator of a state-of-the-art subsea fibre-optic system providing connectivity across the Caribbean islands and to the Americas, has announced it has named Nigel Bayliff, CEO of Aqua Comms DAC, as a non-exec Director of Board. Mr. Bayliff’s career spans more than 30 years in the global telecommunications industry across senior executive, operational and technical roles, including CEO and Board Member of Huawei Marine Networks.

Prior to joining Aqua Comms, Mr. Bayliff was an advisor and consultant to cable development, private equity and government clients. Among his most notable accomplishments, he led Huawei Marine Networks’ growth from a start-up to a major player in the subsea cable construction sector while introducing several technological advances into the marketplace. Previously, he was a member of the executive team of FLAG Telecom where he served as an officer and deputy chairman, and was responsible for the construction and operation of the FLAG Global Network, which encompasses 65,000 km of submarine cable systems and provides carrier-grade connectivity to 40 countries. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the United Nations joint task force that examines the gathering of disaster mitigation and climate information from the global web of undersea cable systems.

The Deep Blue subsea network, on which the company has completed all terrestrial cable landing surveys and planning, spans nearly 12,000 km with initial landing points in 12 markets throughout the region, including the Cayman Islands, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turks & Caicos Islands, with dual diverse landings in the U.S., which will include the first landing of a cable on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The Deep Blue network will benefit the region’s businesses and consumers by offering significantly higher design capacity, lower unit costs, lower latency through direct connectivity, and the ability to leverage advancements in reliability such as improved route planning and installation techniques.
The Deep Blue subsea cable network, which will offer an initial capacity of 6 Tbps per fibre pair, will ensure availability, competitive pricing and capacity resilience throughout the region. The company recently incorporated in the U.S., which will support its FCC license application to operate and land in Puerto Rico. Initial business inquiries in the Deep Blue subsea network are strong, with the company presently engaged with approximately 10 individual organisations interested in significant capacity or fibre purchases.
