Deadline for New Moroccan Import Rules for Clothing Fabrics Approaches
A look at new importation rules for clothing fabrics destined for Morocco.
- (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2022 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is reminding stakeholders that from May 7, 2022, the Kingdom of Morocco requires a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for imported clothing fabrics.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) established a Verification of Conformity (VoC) program to certify that imported industrial products complied with national regulations for product quality and safety in 2020. Depending on the product, verification could take place prior to shipment in the country of export or upon arrival in Morocco.
In March 2022, the MIC announced new measures and revised the list of products requiring VoC prior to export. Clothing fabrics are on the revised list and so will require a CoC for importation. While the regulation is now in force, importers will only be required to conform to it from May 7, 2022.
Clothing fabrics must comply with the requirements in technical regulation standard NM 09.0.000:2018 and obtain a CoC before entering the Moroccan market. The certificate must then be presented upon arrival in Morocco. Only once a valid CoC has been presented will the goods be able to clear customs.
Stakeholders should be aware that Moroccan import rules for industrial products allow for a second analysis of compliance if the first fails, and if requested by the importer. This is granted on the condition that two samples are taken and both must be compliant. If one of the two results is non-compliant, the goods may not enter the Moroccan market.
