About David Carney
David Carney is a litigation attorney representing financial services and health care providers in privacy class action matters at both the trial and appellate levels. David has been involved in some of the largest health care data breaches to date, including Community Health Systems, Premera Blue Cross, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, and UMass Memorial Medical Center. Recently, David helped secure a series of major victories for Advocate Medical Group in litigation arising out of the 2013 data breach involving stolen computers potentially containing unencrypted records of about four million patients.
David earned Law360's Rising Star distinction in 2016 as one of the top three privacy attorneys under 40, and holds a B.A. from College of Wooster (1999) and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (2005). He resides in Cleveland, Ohio, and is a member of the American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
