- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) March 24, 2018 - Patricia Smith, daughter of Roy Innis, the former National Chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), has launched a nationwide search for a kidney donor. Smith lost both kidneys as a result of polycystic kidney disease and is currently undergoing dialysis three times a week. Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited disorder in which clusters of cysts develop within the kidneys, causing them to enlarge and lose function over time.
Smith is a wife and mother and sibling of Niger Innis, current National Spokesman of CORE. She is originally from St. John, US. Virgin Islands. She studied in Greece, Japan, and Israel. She received a bachelors degree in sociology from SUNY Purchase and a masters degree in social work from Adelphi University. For over 20 years, Patricia Smith worked for the Administration for Children’s Services in New York City.
The Innis family is reaching out to the general public via mass media and social media. They hope to inform the public that kidney donation is a safe and much needed gift for those suffering from polycystic kidney disease. They are spreading the word that one healthy kidney can work as well as two. The family wants possible donors to know that if they have no major health issues, they can lead normal, healthy lives after donating a kidney.
Kidney donors with O positive blood types are sought.
