Daniels Sharpsmart Presents Smarter Way to Manage Medical Waste
Daniels Sharpsmart Introduces The Medismart System.
- (1888PressRelease) January 31, 2012 - CHICAGO - Daniels Sharpsmart Inc., the world's largest provider of reusable systems for sharps disposal and the second largest company in the medical waste disposal industry in the United States, is introducing the Medismart system, a new way to manage medical waste. Evolved from the industry-leading Sharpsmart system, the reusable Medismart system sets new standards in infection control, environmental effectiveness and logistical cost savings.
"We see this as significant paradigm shift in the management of medical waste. It was important to us to develop a system that could remove a major source of pathogen transfer in healthcare facilities while also helping to reduce the carbon footprint," said David Skinner, Vice President of Daniels Sharpsmart. "The Medismart system achieves this in a neat, compact design while also being aesthetically pleasing for facilities."
As with the original Sharpsmart reusable container system, the Medismart system continues to emphasize the importance of safety of healthcare workers by helping to reduce the risk of pathogen transfer. The new Medismart system is designed with a foot-pedal opening mechanism and a bagless system that reduces physical contact with the system. This results in a significant reduction in the pathogen transfer risk that currently exists with standard medical waste containers. Once full, the container is removed from the facility, emptied, and placed in a rigorous 6-stage wash and sanitization process.
The Medismart system is helping healthcare facilities to significantly reduce their environmental impact by improving waste segregation. Through the use of impactful labeling and easily identifiable design, the reusable Medismart System is far less likely to be mistakenly used for general waste, resulting in fewer tub exchanges and significant cost savings.
In addition, there are no plastic liners (red bags) or cardboard boxes required with the Medismart system eliminating plastic and cardboard waste and providing a cost saving. The eco-friendly Washsmart process uses a fully automated wash system and recycled water to ensure minimum environmental impact.
"The Medismart system is being successfully rolled out across Australia and more recently in Canada. We're excited to be able to offer this to the market in the United States," said Skinner.
Hamilton Health Sciences in Canada recently completed a pilot program in which the clinical staff found the Medismart system more convenient to use than previous systems with its hands-free operating system, trolley system for easy mobility and reusable container that eliminates the need for plastic liners minimizing waste and infection transfer.
To help healthcare facilities improve their waste management with optimal efficiency and effectiveness, there are numerous accessory options such as holders, floorstand models, bulk delivery carts, and transporters. The Medismart system is ideal for facilities in the healthcare industry such as hospital wards, surgery centers, emergency departments, medical centers, pathology collection rooms, and many more.
