Daniel Licht Returns To Score Season Six Of Dexter
Dexter's Remix Contest Begins October 13th.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) November 17, 2011 - Film/TV Composer Daniel Licht returns to score the sixth season of Showtime series DEXTER. Licht has built a reputation for his unique and obscure instrumentation for the show. His musical pallette continues to expand with duct tape and surgical tools such as hemostats and scalpels that join the sounds of human femurs, prehistoric rhythm instruments and traditional instruments. The popularity of Licht's unique music has spawned an official remix contest based on his eerie "Blood Theme." The Remix contest launches October 13th and run through November 15th. To enter the contest and get official rules visit www.showtime.com???
The remix contest involves remixing the track "Blood Theme 2010." Participants will be able to take stems of the music (different instrumental tracks) that are supplied on the site and use the components or add original elements to the piece. Five winners will have their remix included on the official Dexter Season 6 soundtrack and will receive prize packages from Native Instruments, Milan Records and Showtime.
For Daniel Licht, adding unusual instrumentation into the score was a natural progression for the story of a forensic expert and serial killer. "When I lived in New York, I visited the ancient music wing of the Metropolitan Museum and wondered what the instruments behind the glass sounded like," said Licht. DEXTER has a reputation for unique storytelling as well as music. An online featurette on the making of the music is on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR38gwzJhLg.
"Daniel's music adds to the richness of the landscape," says DEXTER star Michael C. Hall. "What you appreciate when you watch the show is that Dan heightens the emotional terrain. He has such a sensitivity to what we're doing as actors."
The versatile composer has scored across many genres of film but thriller stories hold a spot soft for him. "I got my start doing horror/thriller genre films. I enjoy the fact that music is an essential element that contributes to the tension." Daniel Licht's film credits include HELLRAISER BLOODLINE, STEPHEN KING'S THINNER and PERMANENT MIDNIGHT. TV credits include JAKE IN PROGRESS and KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL. Recently, Licht received BMI Awards for his work on DEXTER and the ABC series BODY OF PROOF, both shows he is currently scoring. Licht is in the studio writing music for the newest SILENT HILL 8 - DOWNPOUR videogame to be released March 31st, 2012.
