Dana Battaglia Recognized in Long Island Business News' 40 Under 40 Awards Program
Dana Battaglia, assistant professor in Adelphi University's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders was honored with Long Island Business News' 40 Under 40. She was recognized for her contributions towards the advancement of individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) January 31, 2013 - Adelphi University is proud to announce that Dana Battaglia, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education was honored with Long Island Business News' 40 Under 40, a prestigious award that recognizes young business and community leaders. The awards gala was held on January 24, 2013, from 6:00 to 10 p.m. at The Crest Hollow Country Club, 8325 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY.
Since 1998, Long Island Business News has taken nominations for outstanding members of the business community on Long Island who are under the age of 40. These future leaders of Long Island have already begun to distinguish themselves in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit sector. They have a proven track record of career success, are involved in mentoring and promoting their profession and find time to give back to their communities.
Battaglia is a licensed speech-language pathologist and teacher of the speech and hearing handicapped in New York State for the past 12 years. Battaglia has dedicated her career to the advancement of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She created a new course at the graduate level at Adelphi in an effort to educate future speech-language pathologists about the disorder prior to graduation and subsequent clinical practice.
Additionally, Battaglia is a consultant at the nonprofit organization Genesis/Eden II Programs, where she has worked since 1995, educating individuals with ASD. She has conducted presentations on autism and speech-language topics at the local, state and national levels.
Respected for her public service, she also is a board member of the Long Island Speech Language Hearing Association and president and co-founder of Shannon's Fight Inc., which is dedicated to helping those affected by rare forms of cancer.
Battaglia received her bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from LIU Post, master's degree in speech-language pathology from St. John's University, and Ph.D. degree in speech-language hearing sciences from the City University of New York.
