Daimler AG share their view on European fuel developments

- (1888PressRelease) March 02, 2012 - Fuel innovation will be key as the vehicle industry attempts to answer the dual considerations of growing demand for passenger and commercial vehicles with the increasing need to reduce fuel consumption says Manfred Schuckert, Company Strategist at Daimler AG.
Mr Schuckert elaborates, "For commercial vehicles in particular there is increasing demand for high quality diesel and the question needs to be answered about the potential of diesel compared to other propulsion systems, and whether diesel will remain the backbone of the commercial vehicle industry".
"Innovation is absolute key from a product point of view. For instance, low C02 well to tank fuels were not the main focus of the fuel industry in the past and this needs to change going forward."
Daimler believes that to meet future fuel demands, the European fuels industry will need to meet both affordability and sustainability criteria. "Availability of affordable diesel fuel with high quality and very low sulphur is key for future fuel demands. Beyond this, we need to see further improvement in production, use and development of biofuels including homogeneous biodiesel content throughout Europe and biodiesel with an environmentally friendly production and image".
Manfred Schuckert will be speaking about Daimler's view on the European fuels industry alongside leading refiners including Total, Shell, BP, Eni, MOL Group among others at the 13th Annual European Fuels Conference, 13 - 16 March in Paris.
