CWS Selected To Install Security Window, Decorative Films For Department Of Justice-Occupied Building
Commercial Window Shield is the country's largest installer of shatter resistant and solar control window films.
- (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2017 - WASHINGTON - Balfour Beatty Construction has selected Commercial Window Shield for a security window film and decorative glass film installation project at a U.S. Department of Justice-occupied building in the nation's capitol.
The project involves installing 14-mil security window film on all 12 floors of the newly-completed building, known as 3 Constitution, at 175 N, N St. NE. The General Services Administration, which leases the space for DOJ, hired a blast engineer to complete a vulnerability assessment of the building because it's located next to a busy freight train rail line. As a result of the engineer's findings, Commercial Window Shield installers will secure the film on the 1st and 2nd floors facing the tracks with a wet glaze attachment system.
In all, the company will install security film on 1,705 panes of glass covering 39,227 sq. ft. Commercial Window Shield also will install decorative film on 1,700 sq. ft. of interior office glass.
GSA has security requirements in its lease language that calls for the installation of fragment retention film on buildings with federal tenants considered at risk.
Commercial Window Shield was selected by Balfour from three window film installation company bidders. The project began this month and will be completed on a tight deadline in six months. The decorative film will be installed in phases, as the interior glass will be installed in phases as well.
Among the hundreds of projects the company has completed in its 30 years are the U.S. Capitol, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Pentagon, FBI headquarters, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, O'Hare International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], the United Nations, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
