  • (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2013 - Each year Curzon PR chooses a charity partner as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, providing pro bono communications support. After successfully supporting CARE Pakistan, Pakistan's largest educational NGO, Curzon has now selected the Sara Charlton Charitable Foundation (SCCF), supporting its charity gala auction In The Name of Honour on 18 September 2013 at One Mayfair.

The 18-22 September 2013 will mark an important week for the SCCF and for victims of domestic abuse and honour-based violence around the UK. With one in four women in the UK suffering abuse in their lifetime, and with some 3000 unreported cases of honour-based violence each year, there is an urgent need for action. The exhibition will feature contributors from around the globe, including ground-breaking feminist artists from the 1970s and 80s Vanessa Beecroft, Jenny Holzer and Alexis Hunter, as well as a younger generation addressing gender issues such as Faiza Butt, Shadi Ghadirian, Mona Hatoum and Sarah Lucas. A number of works have been created especially for In the Name of Honour.

The majority of works will be available to purchase on the launch night and subsequently throughout the week. The rest of the works will be auctioned via Christie's. The rest of the week will see educational days, workshops and artist talks.

"Domestic Violence is one of the greatest overlooked problems in our society," says SCCF Director Antonia Packard. "To date, domestic violence has been largely viewed as a private matter and a gender issue. We have to get to the place where society sees domestic violence as a violation of human rights over everything else. With the public's support, I hope that we can get to a place where we are not scared to speak out against abusers, and to see abusive behaviour as a crime."

Adds Farzana Baduel, MD of Curzon PR: "As part of Curzon's commitment to supporting charitable initiatives, I am delighted to be working together with the Sarah Charlton Charitable Foundation on this important event. Spreading awareness of domestic violence and how to combat it cannot be stressed enough."

Curzon's previous charity partner was CARE Pakistan, the largest educational NGO in Pakistan. Dr Mohammad Jawad, subject of the Oscar-winning documentary, Saving Face, was brought on board as the charity's patron, and coverage included an interview with the charity's founder, Seema Aziz, on BBC World News as well as extensive press in the UK and Pakistan including BBC Radio Asian Network and The News International. Aziz was also named Philanthropist of the Year by Hello! Pakistan.

    Sara Charlton Charitable Foundation
The Sara Charlton Charitable Foundation (SCCF) is a new grant-making charity dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse, including honour-based violence, in the United Kingdom. The SCCF was formally established in early 2011 in memory of Sara Charlton, a woman who dedicated her life to helping vulnerable women in the North East of England. The SCCF aims to carry on her good work. As its mandate expands to cover more services throughout the United Kingdom, the SCCF will continue to fund services for abused women and children throughout the North East and in particular in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, as part of Sara Charlton's legacy. The SCCF has a clear understanding of what the sector desperately needs, and seeks to raise funds for a larger number of IDVAs (trained workers who liaise directly with the police, social services and the court in order to protect their clients - high risk victims of abuse) across the UK and improve IDVA services at a local as well as national level. The SCCF also seeks to break the cycle of abuse through the introduction of Prevention Workers, primarily in schools and community centres. For more information, visit www.saracharltoncharity.com
