Cuatro Caballos Wins Gold and Bronze Medals at Grand Harvest Awards
Uruguay is emerging as a promising wine region. Two Cuatro Caballos Wines of Uruguay were awarded Gold and Bronze medals at the Grand Harvest Awards competition presented by Vineyards and Winery Management.
- Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) December 01, 2012 - Two Cuatro Caballos Wines were awarded Gold and Bronze medals at the Grand Harvest Awards competition presented by Vineyards and Winery Management of Santa Rosa, California. Judges awarded a total of eight Double Gold, 94 Gold, 371 Silver and nearly 300 Bronze medals from among the nearly 950 wines submitted.
The 2007 Cuatro Caballos Tannat, Barrel Aged, placed Gold, and the 2008 Cuatro Caballos Tannat-Merlot, Barrel Aged, placed Bronze, both within the "Other Red Blends" category. Both wines come from a vineyard planted in 2001 in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay, approximately one mile from the sea.
Debra Del Fiorentino, co-owner of Russian River Vineyards, was Chief Judge for the awards, leading a team comprised of 18 wine professionals. The Grant Harvest Awards is the only established competition within the U.S. that evaluates wines based on terroir. This allows Grand Harvest judges to exclusively taste wines form the same region and evaluate its quality against other wines with the same appellation characteristics.

"We are also pleased with the Bronze medal for the 2008 Tannat Merlot since this is the first competition for this wine. This once again validates the quality of our wines and illustrates the growing vibrancy of Uruguay as a wine producing country."

Cuatro Caballos
Cuatro Caballos' vineyard was planted near the town of Jose Ignacio, Uruguay, in October 2001 by the vineyards management group, Juanico, and was the first coastal vineyard in Uruguay. The vines were imported from France and planted on three acres of a 15-acre tract overlooking the sea. The first Cuatro Caballos harvest was in 2005, and the United States received its first shipment of Cuatro Caballos Tannat in September 2010. The terroir of this area has now been determined to be excellent for the Tannat grape and has produced an exceptional wine that is full bodied with deep flavors of chocolate, berries and pepper.
