The CSX Loading Dock/Employee break area floor was showing signs of wear. Craig Heidinger of Concrete Options, Jacksonville Florida was called in to evaluate and make recommendations. Craig commented the following “CSX needed many things from one floor. Being a loading dock it had to take a lot of abrasion. Due to employee safety it needed to be non skid and since it was exposed to sunlight it needed to be completely UV stable. I offer over 100 different type floor toppings, all with unique characteristics. Due to the main requirements needed for this application only one product stood out, the DeckraTex non skid floor system.”
Tom Hay, Technical Advisor for SprayMax Industrial Coatings Inc.was glad Craig and Concrete Options was the elected contractor for the SprayMax DeckraTex system. Tom commented, “Craig is a fantastic contractor. I have worked with him on other jobs. The customer comes first with Craig, he never looks to cut corners, only how to make the application better.”
Craig and Tom went on to explain how the system was put together. “CSX’s floor was borderline on going over the existing paint, some existing chalking and loose paint dictated we scarify the floor removing all of the old paint. There was some cracking in the concrete so the cracks were V grooved and DeckraTex Control Joint sealant was applied. The advantage of the Control Join Sealant was it would create an expansion joint in case of further movement. The rapid cure time of 30 minutes allowed the job to not be slowed down. CSX wanted to stay with a Green floor with Yellow safety boarder. 3M quartz granules in green were chosen as the 50% by volume admixture to the clear Aliphatic Polyurea DeckraTex. DeckraTex Epoxprimer was chosen as it is a breathing primer and the DeckraTex non skid floor coating can be applied right over the wet primer. Due to the size of the job a Graco SpayTex 1500 was chosen to spray the DeckraTex rather than a hopper gun. Two men were priming as the DeckraTex was being sprayed. There was no need for respirators or breathing apparatus as the Aliphatic Polyurea is already pre reacted. On finish of spray of the non skid coating a Yellow Tint was added to the clear DeckraTex to spray the border with a common cup gun. After completion of the non skid floor coating it was decided to apply a top sealer of the clear Aliphatic DeckraTex for added strength and better chemical resistance.”
