  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - The Nitrofreeze® Dry Ice Blast Cleaning Service enables critical power generation equipment to be cleaned of contaminants in a more rapid fashion when compared to traditional methods.

The dry ice blast cleaning process utilizes the Cold Jet® Aero 75DX blasting system, dry ice pellets and an air compressor to achieve cleaning of various substrates. Dry ice pellets are propelled from the Aero 75DX system via a blast gun using compressed air. The pellets are shot at the surface to be cleaned at pressures ranging from 80PSI to 160PSI. Upon impact dry ice pellets expand 800 times their size to remove contaminants, thus sublimating harmlessly back into the Earth's atmosphere.

"Dry ice blast cleaning offers a cost-effective and far less time-consuming solution for the cleaning of power generation equipment," stated Robin Rhodes, President of the Cryogenic Institute of New England, Inc. "The Nitrofreeze® Dry Ice Blast Cleaning Process allows energy service providers to get their equipment back online in a shorter time frame, reducing the financial losses incurred due to an outage," he added.

The Cryogenic Institute of New England, Inc. has performed cleaning projects for the power generation sector for the past two years. The company has cleaned turbines, generators, compressors, rotors and stators prior to their inspection during preventative maintenance overhauls. In addition, the company has remediated several transformers and circuit breakers in power substations of fire damage. Power generation customers enjoy expedited cleaning times and overall shorter overhauls of their equipment.

"The Nitrofreeze® Dry Ice Blasting Process is non-conductive, enabling technicians to clean power generation systems without causing damage to integral electronics," said Ryan Taylor, Product Marketing Specialist at the Cryogenic Institute of New England, Inc. "In addition, the process is EPA approved, therefore assisting the emergence of green technologies in the power industry," he added. These benefits make the process even more alluring to power companies as they look for more competitive cleaning processes than hand cleaning and walnut shell blasting.
