ABOUT CROSSROADS OF THE WORLD: Located in the heart of Hollywood, Crossroads of the World is a unique landmark of Los Angeles' 1930s architecture that is also America's first outdoor shopping mall. Its 60-foot tower with revolving globe on the top is instantly recognizable and features nine buildings in different architectural styles, all of which have been renovated to their original appearance. Recognized by both the city and the U.S. government as an architectural landmark, Crossroads of the World became Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #134 in 1974, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
WHY: CROSSROADS ARTS COLLECTIVE MISSION STATEMENT: Crossroads Arts Collective honors, showcases, supports and promotes the artistic endeavors of our multitalented members, while providing opportunities for diverse publics to engage with art/craft at a meaningful level through classes, events, workshops, mentoring and other outreach activities. Our "one-of-a-kind, one-at-a-time" philosophy is reflected in everything we do, from our unique space at Crossroads of the World, to the objects we create, to our "handmade" approach to designing events and community service programs.
