Crisanta Duran Wins Colorado House District 5 Race
Win Makes Duran The Youngest Legislator And Only Latina In Colorado's State House.
- Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) November 05, 2010 - Today, voters cast a huge vote of confidence for Crisanta Duran, Democratic candidate for Colorado State House of Representatives' 5th District (www.duranforcolorado.com), carrying her to a big win over the Republican challenger in the 2010 general election.
Despite a series of negative attacks leveled by her opponent days before the election, Ms. Duran won in convincing fashion, garnering over 76% of the vote. With the win, Ms. Duran becomes the youngest Latina state legislator in Colorado's history.
"We built a positive campaign around the promise of building bridges between HD 5's changing neighborhoods and getting the economy back on track," said Ms. Duran. "We've knocked on thousands of doors in neighborhoods across the District over the past year, and we know these are the issues voters are most concerned about. These are the marching orders I'm taking with me to the State House."
Colorado's House District 5, which stretches from 7th and Speer to 54th and Colorado, represents the heart of Denver. The District's neighborhoods include Lodo, Highlands, Capitol Hill, Sunnyside, and Globeville.
Ms. Duran, a native of Colorado, comes to her new role as State Representative having served as Political Director for Senator Mark Udall in his successful 2008 U.S. Senate race. Previously she was elected to serve as President of the Colorado Young Democrats and acted as a Democratic National Convention Delegate. Ms. Duran has also worked on legislation to promote workers' rights at the Capitol and negotiated contracts with multi-billion dollar corporations to provide stable wages and affordable health care to thousands of workers and their families throughout Colorado.
"I'm under no illusion that getting the economy back on track, getting our fiscal house in order, and revitalizing our education system so that we're preparing the next generation for the global marketplace," says Ms. Duran.
