- (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2010 - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - For its community service efforts in helping to provide affordable housing to families in need, Crews & Associates, Inc. was recently awarded both the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Manufacturers and Suppliers Council (MSC) Distinguished Community Service Award and the Notable Community Service Award at NAHRO's 2010 National Conference and Exhibition in Reno, NV. Ginny Wiedower, Communications Coordinator for Crews & Associates, accepted the award on the firm's behalf at a plenary session held during the conference, presented by NAHRO President Akinola Popoola.
The purpose of the MSC Community Service Award, as stated by NAHRO, is to recognize outstanding businesses or individuals engaged in voluntary community service for the benefit of a resident, a local housing authority, a community development agency, or other entity involved in providing low-income housing or serving that population.
In celebration of the firm's 30 year anniversary, Crews & Associates funded and completed its second Habitat for Humanity home build. Construction on the home, located at 5721 Alta Vista Drive in North Little Rock, began in October 2009 and was completed in June of this year. The home is now occupied by Michelle Holt, a single mother, and her young children.
"Habitat for Humanity has been honored to partner with Crews & Associates for two family homes," said Bill Plunkett, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County. "Each homeowner has said that they feel like they are part of the Crews family as they work side by side with them on their home. Crews & Associates invested in both families by providing the labor and finances to make their dreams of homeownership a reality. The individuals work hard, have incredible attitudes, and make a lasting impact on our community. Crews & Associates is investing in lives by building homes, community, and families. We are so thankful to have them as a partner in Pulaski County."
In the last decade alone, Crews made a $15 billion impact on the housing sector, having traded $8 billion in housing bonds from its corporate headquarters, and having underwritten nearly $7 billion in housing transactions. In March of this year, Crews participated in the financing of the largest housing authority sustainability project in the U.S. to date for the Boston Housing Authority, a project totaling $59,030,000.
Crews began its partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County in 2007 when the firm completed its first home build. Crews employees and volunteers contributed a total of 2,080 hours to complete both construction projects.
"Service to our community is a pillar upon which our firm was founded over 30 years ago," said Rush Harding, CEO of Crews & Associates. "We don't just talk about investing in our community; we act out our commitment by participating in projects like the Habitat for Humanity builds. We're excited and humbled to have received such a prestigious award, and we consider it a challenge to continue to serve our community and beyond."
The MSC Community Service Award was established in 2002 by the Executive Board of the MSC, an organization of NAHRO agency members that supply goods and services to the low- and moderate-income housing and community development industry. Award criteria include Results, Innovation, Ongoing Involvement, and Role of MSC Company/Individual.
NAHRO, established in 1933, is a professional membership organization of more than 23,000 housing and community development agencies and professionals throughout the United States whose mission is to provide affordable housing and safe viable communities that enhance the quality of life for all Americans, especially those of low- and moderate-income.
