McLeod, Co-Owner of Friendly Oaks Bed and Breakfast, has been selected as a Featured Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes William R. McLeod's commitment to excellence in Hospitality and Lodging.
William R. McLeod, who holds a BA in Psychology and Economics from South Dakota State University and an MA in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University, worked in healthcare for 35 years before deciding to switch career paths and get into hospitality.
In February 1994, Mr. McLeod and his business partner purchased a house in Victoria, Texas with the intention of starting a bed and breakfast. Having spent two previous years writing a business plan before finding their location, Friendly Oaks Bed and Breakfast has been successfully operating for nearly twenty years now.
"We do it all, from marketing, to registration of guests, cooking, cleaning, doing the taxes, and so on," Mr. McLeod said about running his business. "We only have one part-time employee who handles some of the cleaning and laundry. We meet with business owners to advertise our business and encourage them to use our services for out of town visitors."
Explaining that running a B&B is similar to hospital management in that you must be sure to make your clients feel comfortable in their surroundings, Mr. McLeod's many years in healthcare administration have served him well. He and his partner truly enjoy entertaining guests and they go out of their way to make each one of them feel at home during their stay. Now reaching their end goal in their professional lives, Mr. McLeod and his partner are looking forward to retirement. They hope to sell the business in the near future with the expectations that the bed and breakfast will continue to serve the community by maintaining a very high level of service.
Mr. McLeod is a current and active member with his local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Rotary Foundation, and Professional Association of Innkeepers International. He previously served as president of his Rotary and received a Distinguished Rotary Club Award. He also served as president of the board for the Community Food Bank, Fine Arts Association, and Victoria Rotary Foundation, and as business manager for the Associated Clan MacLeod Societies. Mr. McLeod also spent 20 years in the US Army from 1958-78, serving in Germany, Vietnam, and Korea, before retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
