Covington Who's Who Selects Vance L. Thomas as a Professional Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Vance L. Thomas's commitment to excellence in the Electrical Union.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) February 05, 2015 - Vance L. Thomas, Member of IBEW Local Union #47, has been selected as a Professional of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Vance L. Thomas, who grew up on a cattle ranch in the Lake Okeechobee, and whose father operated Allapattah Properties, a 35,000-acre ranch in Martin County for the Olin family that is known for making Winchester Firearms, is a native Floridian. Graduating from Martin County Senior High School in Stuart, Florida, Mr. Thomas graduated in the top 10% of his class and later attended Indian River Community College for his associate's degree in business. After entering the University of Florida thereafter, he soon became involved with undercover operations in Florida, before being taken on board with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Mr. Thomas is currently a 7th Journeyman Lineman in his family.
From 1992-1996, Mr. Thomas served as the recording secretary for the Florida Statewide IBEW Local Union #222 before deciding to relocate to California and work as a Journeyman Lineman. Being transferred to Nevada while working as a permanent employee for the Sierra Pacific Power Company, he eventually moved back to California for higher wages. By 2011, Mr. Thomas was appointed recording secretary of IBEW Local Union #47 for the Outside Construction Division of Riverside, California.
"For the past several years, I have suffered from EMF-ELF radiation poisoning, which has been diagnosed by the Neurological Staff at UCLA in Los Angeles," Mr. Thomas said, who is now 63-years-old. "This is due to working with rubber gloves in close proximity to high voltage, and symptoms include blackouts. I remain prone and have no knowledge of an attack, which I am able to recover from within 3-4 minutes."
A certified journeyman lineman since 1990, Mr. Thomas is hopeful that he still has a few more years to contribute on the job. A current member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, he also volunteers his time with the American Red Cross.
