Brodsky, after his Navy WW2 service and a stint as a hot jazz musician in Greenwich Village, spent his forty-six year professional career working in the aerospace industry and in higher education. He holds a Doctor of Science degree from New York University, retired from the industry and teaching in 1996, and began writing non-fiction books in 2000. Considering himself "the world's oldest, most unsuccessful author", Brodsky writes for the pure pleasure of it. "I'd like to continue writing short stories as well," Brodsky said, "and if I write enough of them to make up a book I shall do so."

Brodsky has published nine short stories in addition to his books and he continues to promote his books when he isn't busy writing. He's a member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Society for the Preservation of Dixieland Jazz. He's also received numerous Letters of Commendation, including a Citation from the President of the University of Southern California, where he was Professor of Astronautical Engineering.
