Covington Who's Who Selects Philip D. Grisham as a Professional Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

After earning his associate's degree in nursing from Jones County Junior College in 2002, Philip D. Grisham began his career as a charge nurse for an adult male acute care psychiatric unit at East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.
Now a registered nurse II, permanent charge nurse for a very busy medical-surgical unit, Grisham makes assignments for nurses and assistants, monitors staffing, consults with interns, residents, and attending physicians regarding patient care, is a resource for nurses and physicians, plus so much more.
The former restaurant owner never knew just how much he would appreciate working in nursing until he decided to go back to school and give it a try. He was nearly fifty-years-old before making a career change and he has since never looked back.
"Becoming a nurse was the best decision I have ever made," Grisham said. "I get such joy from helping others. Through my job, I have found many other charitable groups, like the Mississippi Chapter of Nurses in AIDS Care, which has given me the opportunity to do many good and worthwhile things."
With plans to continue working in nursing for as long as possible, Grisham is also a healthcare education coordinator for HIV 101 classes at Grace House, which is now entering its third year. He is also a magnet champion and captain at the University of Mississippi, the chairman for the Scheduling Task Force, serves on the Daisy Committee and Nurses in Action, and is a member of the Mississippi Chapter of Nurses in AIDS Care. Grisham has also been nominated for numerous awards, including Nursing Excellence Awards, Mississippi Nurses Association Nightingale Awards, a Community Service Nurse of the Year Award in 2011, and a Master Preceptor of the Year Award in 2009. He is currently a certified medical-surgical nurse through American Nurses Credentialing Center.
