Covington Who's Who Selects Nigel L. Walker as a Professional of the Year Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Nigel L. Walker's commitment to excellence in Education.
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2012 - Nigel L. Walker, Teacher at Smokey Road Middle School, has been selected as a Professional of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Walker, who holds three degrees, including a Bachelor's in Education, a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Specialist Degree, all form LaGrange College, is a certified mathematics teacher for grades 4-8 and a certified science teacher who has been teaching since 2006.
Teaching both mathematics and science full-time to middle school-aged students for the past five years, Walker has also been coaching the school's football team for the past six years as assistant coach. He holds a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction and is a motivational speaker for education with the Great Black Speakers Bureau.
"The encouragement of my mother to move beyond our surroundings inspired me to work hard at supporting education," Walker said about his career in education. "I strived not only to be successful, but to become an educator so that I could instill a value of success to those students who share a similar background."
Walker has been an active volunteer within the school system, the Burwell psycho-educational program, and the Boys and Girls Club. He has served in numerous youth related activities and has seven years experience working in summer camps, including the Learn 2 Serve Camp through LaGrange College and Camp Promise through Twin Cedars Youth Services, Inc. He's been trained in various areas, including differentiated instruction, writing to win strategies, quantum learning, and teacher training at the Ron Clark Academy. Walker has authored three books, the first is titled "The Underground Philosophy of Education: Teaching is NOT for Dummies". He is a current member of the Georgia Association of Professional Educators, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Alliance of Black Alumni, and Susie's Bundle of Blessings, Inc. He's been named Teacher of the Year for the 2010-11 school year.
