Covington Who's Who Selects Myrna M. Ligan as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Myrna M. Ligan's commitment to excellence in Piano Performance.
- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) June 02, 2015 - Myrna M. Ligan, Concert Pianist with Keyboard Concertones, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Upon entering the showroom of New Jersey Piano and Organ Company, Myrna M. Ligan was offered to work for the same company and the NJ School of Music. This experience in concertizing and piano teaching led her to an invitation to Australia and Rome, opening doors to a debut as a featured artist in Carnegie Hall, New York, seconded by another and other countries around the world.
It was remarkably noticed as a child that Ms. Ligan had an extraordinary ability to play tunes and pieces on her own without formal training. This is reflected now as an adult as she advances her musical knowledge to discover and explore the piano keys.
"By constantly learning musical pieces to add to a vast repertoire and by trying to understand the various students and their unique needs, I have gained a great deal of professional experience," Ms. Ligan said. "I teach all types of students, from beginners to advanced learners, from Classics to Jazz, and am able to do solo performances and hold concerts for all sorts of celebrations and fundraising events."
By being able to share her music through performance to whomever, wherever, Ms. Ligan gets to translate the beauty of sound into a musical piece of poetry that touches people's lives on a daily basis. Giving back to others in this fashion is most rewarding and she continues to try and excel in her expertise, especially for those avid listeners all over the world.
Ms. Ligan holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the College of the Holy Spirit in Piano Performance and Music Education. This was followed by a Master's Degree in Education in Guidance and Counselling from St. Louis University on a Faculty scholarship. From the same school she handled the academic disciplines of Music Humanities and Theology. Just 11 credits shy of earning her PhD in Education at St. Louis University, she left after being accepted to the New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, Massachusetts. Studying musicology and studio instruction under Jacob Maxin from Julliard, she left the NEC after being offered a teaching concertizing for NJPiano and Company. A featured artist during the 2011 Ronald McDonald House of Charity, Ms. Ligan also earned several accolades, including a 2012 American Association of Philadelphia Inc Centennial Award, being named Sreinway Artist of NJ in 2012, and a 2014 Martin Luther King Award. She performed for Ronald McDonald at their Performathon in 2012, for the Cooper Children's Hospital Performathon in 2013, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Performathon in 2014.
