Mr. Drake's first short story, entitled 'Last Man on Earth', was published in 2007. His first novel, 'Farmers &Mercenaries - Book One of the Genesis of Oblivion Saga', was published in 2008. By 2010, he was hired to work on his first musical, 'Kaboom, The End of Life on Earth', a comedy. Even more impressively, Sony hired him in December 2012 as their lead tie-in writer for 'Everquest Next'.
"With creative writing, you need a deep and intimate understanding of the English language," Mr. Drake says. "However, characters and stories come alive through the well of human experience contained within the author. It's why most authors tend to be older, because they have more experience. To create unique, vibrant characters that step off the page, an author must empathize with the character's motivations, goals, desires, loves, hates, believes, and so forth. I feel I have reached a place in my life where all those traits are available to me."
There is no greater satisfaction for Mr. Drake when it comes to touching other's lives through his writing. Though it is a tough industry, his love of telling stories is worth it. He plans to continue to write and promote himself to fans around the world in hopes of more and more people discovering him and his work.
In 2009 and 2011 Mr. Drake won a Moonbeam Fantasy Award for Excellence in Literature. He was also named Dragon Root Magazine's Best New Fantasy Author in 2009.
