Covington Who's Who Selects Martha P. McFarland as an Executive Member of the Year for the Executive and Professional Registry

McFarland, Recreation Specialist Senior at Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, Division of Parks and Recreation, has been selected as a 2012 Executive Member of the Year for the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Martha P. McFarland's commitment to excellence in Local Government.
McFarland, who holds a Master's Degree in Recreation and Park Administration from Eastern Kentucky University, began working in recreation while pursuing her bachelor's degree.
Now overseeing the activity programming and trip planning for senior adults, McFarland also assists with swim lessons for individuals with disabilities ages four and up, is responsible for the day to day operation of the senior center, serves as the rental facility consultant, supervises staff, schedules classes, activities and tours, develops health promotion and life skill activities, develops goals and objectives, coordinates special events, oversees the budget, drafts reports, creates newsletters, flyers and itineraries, and more.
"I have dedicated my professional career to providing others with the opportunities to succeed in their pursuit of leisure activities," McFarland said. "I try not to ask the question why, but try to capitalize on the opportunity presented to me and do the best I can for the job at hand."
With plans to continue her education at the local, state and national levels, McFarland is a certified instructor trainer for the American Red Cross where she has taught in various disciplines for the past twenty-two years. She is a member of the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society where she has presented sessions at their annual conference and received several awards for programs she developed, and is also a member of the National Recreation and Park Association. She received the Kentucky Parks and Recreation Fellow Award in 2011, which recognizes individuals who have a dedicated interest in the recreation profession and is nominated by fellow recreational professionals.
