Covington Who's Who Selects Joanne K. Gelinas as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
Joanne K. Gelinas, Owner of Mountainside Stables, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Joanne K. Gelinas's commitment to excellence in Horse Instruction and Youth Horse Education.
- Manchester-Nashua, NH (1888PressRelease) April 11, 2014 - Joanne K. Gelinas, a certified horsemanship riding master through the School of Meredith Manner, began working with horses at the age of three. Growing up, she attended the Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship in West Virginia, working for a few private stables after graduation before realizing she wanted to start her own horse program.
Now the owner of her small stable, Mountainside Stables, located in Goffstown, New Hampshire, Ms. Gelinas, who is known all over as "Mss Jo", works with both horses and children, which she finds to be most rewarding. Although it requires a lot of patience, she is very organized and believes that communication is key to the stable's success.
"I stand behind good horsemanship and sportsmanship that I teach every day," Ms. Gelinas said, who began the program when she was just 18-years-old. "I always teach my students that it's the process that is the Blue Ribbon. When you go to a show the ribbon is the bonus at the end of the day."
Greatly inspired by her father, who taught her that hard work certainly pays off, Ms. Gelinas dad was also a big part of her horse hobby. He also taught her life skills and that not everything comes easy in life; that you must work for it.
Ms. Gelinas attends the AYHC Symposium every year for the past 10 years. She travels all over the US to attend them, alongside professionals, 4H leaders, trainers, veterinarians, FFA, pony club, and specialists. They work together to promote the youth and horses for the future. According to Ms. Gelinas, "Kids and horses equals magic," which is what AYHC stands for and is really all about. She also volunteers in her local community, is the Goffstown High School Equestrian School advisor, and is a part of the South Central District in New Hampshire where she helps run and organize meets in her area.
In addition, Ms. Gelinas works in a local high school in their special education department and has brought students to her stable to witness the many benefits the horses have on children. She served as the president of 4H Hillsborough County Parent Leader Teen Association from and as president of the 4H Hillsborough County 4H Horse Council from 2008-2014. She is also the recipient of numerous accolades, including a Horsewoman of Distinction Award, a Horseperson of the Year, a 4H Horse Leader of Hoofbeats Club for 35 Years of Service Award, a Lil Bit Wimpy New Hampshire 4H Horse of the Year Award, and an Outstanding Woman in New Hampshire Award.
