Covington Who's Who Selects Jessica Lynn Marszalek (Johnson) as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
Jessica Lynn Marszalek (Johnson), Teacher at Joliet Township School District and Professor at the University of St. Francis, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Jessica Lynn Marszalek's commitment to excellence in Education and Higher Education.
- Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) May 16, 2014 - Jessica Lynn Marszalek, who holds a BA in Special Education and Elementary Education from Illinois State University, followed by an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with Honors at Concordia University, and a second MEd in Administration and Leadership with Honors, also at Concordia University, is certified in Administration through the state of Illinois and is a Nationally Board Certified Master of Special Teaching through NBPTS.
Beginning her teaching career in 1998, Ms. Marszalek has taught for five different school districts in the Chicago south suburbs, ranging in grades from 5th through 12th. In her current role as a special education teacher for Joliet Township School District, she creates, prepares, and instructs Literacy and English curriculum for freshman and sophomore special education students. Due to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in place for each student, Ms. Marszalek must make many modifications and accommodations, in addition to managing behavior. As a professor at the University of St. Francis, she teaches three classes as part of a Master's program in special education. Currently working with other professors to rewrite courses and prepare for both online and site-based learners, her current responsibilities also include linking course goals and objectives to activities and assessments to better prepare her graduate students to teach special education and pass their Learning Behavior Specialist I certification.
"I approach teaching in order to not only make the learning accessible to my students, but make it fun and memorable as well," Ms. Marszalek said. "I love learning and collaborating with others, so teaching both high school and college courses is a perfect way to teach and learn through the experience and expertise of others."
Though Ms. Marszalek is certified to teach at a higher level or serve as a high school dean or administrator, she is perfectly content teaching in the classroom until she finds something just as inspiring. For her it is not about the money, but instead about raising reading levels and spirits where she currently is. A member of the American Federation of Teachers for 15 years, Ms. Marszalek is also on the Council for Exception Children for the past five years, is a member of a local bowling league, and is co-founder and administrator for a not-for-profit, competitive soccer club. She's been involved in numerous committees and initiatives, has attended many conferences, and has developed and presented various professional development opportunities in her district.
