Beginning his career in as a sales rep in the fashion industry in 1976, Jay H. Martin continued in the industry until 1982 and then went back from 1986-1993. During this time, he also worked as an executive recruiter from 1983-86 and then in audience development for several non-profit musical organizations. In 1994, Mr. Martin went off on his own, forming JS Martin Transcription Resources as sole proprietor, serving as a liaison with clients and subcontractors.
When Mr. Martin is contacted about potential projects, he will reach out to his subcontractors and sign them up for a given project and then distribute the audio or video files as they become available. He keeps track of each job on an ongoing basis and upon inspection of the transcripts, by a designated quality control person, the work is then sent to the client and the project is invoiced. Mr. Martin is diligent about keeping organized and prioritizing his time efficiently. Bringing a personal touch to all of his business dealings, he enjoys interacting with his clients and subcontractors and finds it most rewarding when success is shared.
"I never wanted to be a corporate person toiling under the management of others, but finding the right set of circumstances was difficult," Mr. Martin said about his former business years. "When the pieces started to come together in my current business, I came to realize that I had the ability to bring together various aspects of my previous experiences and create something with lasting value that would also be rewarding for me."
Hoping to expand his business into working with government agencies, Mr. Martin has since become certified with the GSA, providing him the opportunity to expand into the government marketplace and tap into the potential that he believes exists there. Currently, Mr. Martin holds a BA in Fine Arts with a Minor in Music from UCLA. He is also an active member of Market Research Association.
