  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) June 11, 2015 - Elva C. Stout-Close, Retired School Teacher, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Elva C. Stout-Close first began her career in education in 1972 with Lenoir City High School in Lenoir, North Carolina. Now retired, much of her teaching days were spent teaching eight grade earth science at Lakeside Middle and Riverside Middle Schools in Evans, Georgia. She also taught fifth grade for a period of time in science, math, and social studies at Bel Air School, also in Evans.

    "I have been fortunate to have wonderful teachers at Appalachian State University, which drove my passion in geology," Mrs. Stout-Close said. "With each of my degrees I have been able to learn new techniques and gain new knowledge that would benefit my students."

The environment and professors drove my passion in geology and to strive to excel in learning more," Mrs. Stout-Close said. I could be a professional student because I love the excitement of learning new things."

    A current member of American Astronomical Association, National Geology Teacher's Association, and Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society, Mrs. Stout-Close holds a BS in Science Education with a Minor in Geology with Honors from Appalachian State University, an MEd in Education from the University of Augusta, a PhD (ABD) in Science Education from the University of South Carolina, and is certified in Science and Mathematics Education T6 and K-12 in the state of Georgia. She is the recipient of the Georgia's Outstanding Geology Teacher of the Year Award, chosen by the National Earth Science Teachers organization, was named Outstanding Science Teacher of the Central Savanah Regional Area (13 counties in the greater Savanah River area), was named Outstanding Science and Technology Teacher in Columbia County, Georgia, has been featured in numerous Who's Who publications for teaching, including Who'sWho Among America Women, and was featured in Oxford England's University Biography Publication. She was also chosen to work at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona, a facility that has the largest collection of telescopes in the US, had the opportunity to work for two years with the American Astronomical Society in Flagstaff, Arizona and at the University of Texas-Austin and the McDonald's Observatory, Ft. Davis, Texas.

    Now enjoying retirement with her husband, they own a large RV and love to travel throughout the US and Canada hunting for fossils. She also enjoys photography, reading, and wildlife.
