Covington Who's Who Selects Dr. Lauren Kane as a VIP Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
Dr. Lauren Kane, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Lauren Kane's commitment to excellence in Higher Education.
- San Antonio, TX (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2014 - Dr. Lauren Kane, who holds a BS in Microbiology and Chemistry with honors and an MD, both from the University of Texas, is nationally board certified in general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and congenial heart surgery. After the completion of her residency and fellowships in 2011 she began her career in congenital heart surgery at the Health Science Center.
Now an assistant professor for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Division of Congenital Heart Surgery, Dr. Kane is responsible for teaching residents and students, participating in clinical research with peer reviewed publications, and as a congenital heart surgeon, is involved in all aspects of clinical practice of congenital heart surgery.
"I believe you should do what you are passionate about and I am passionate about caring and operating on children and adults born with heart defects," Dr. Kane said. "I cannot imagine doing anything else. I chose an academic based career because I find value in giving back to the educational process that has served me so well and has contributed to the advancement of my field through research."
Dr. Kane aspires to provide the best possible care to patients, hold leadership positions that will make her an advocate in her field for improvement across the board, and continue to teach future physicians-in-training for many more years. She is currently a member with Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Society of Thoracic Surgery, Women in Thoracic Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and Texas Medical Association. She is also a board member of Gift Heart of San Antonio. She is the recipient of three awards: Ally-Sheridan Scholarship Leadership in Health Policy from Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education, 2013; Educate the Educator from Joint Commission on Thoracic Surgical Education, 2012; and Leadership Academy Award from American Association of Thoracic Surgery, 2012.
