Covington Who's Who Selects Donald A. Parks as a Professional Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

- Dover, DE (1888PressRelease) May 31, 2012 - Donald A. Parks, Retired Professor for Delaware State University, has been selected as a Professional Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Donald A. Parks's commitment to excellence in The Arts.
Parks, who holds an Associate's in General Art from Corning Community College, a Bachelor's in Art History from Oneonta University, a Master's in Education and Studio Art from Elmira College, and a Doctorate in Art Education from Syracuse University, has been practicing in the art field all his life.
Now retired from Delaware State University and serving as professor emeritus, Parks continues to teach in the graduate program. During his forty years experience in the field, he has worked with arts educators either as a teacher, professor, or those in dean roles. Currently, he serves as the president of the Child HELP Foundation, as vice-president of the Violette de Mazia Foundation, and as executive officer of the Delaware Arts Alliance.
"My passion for including the arts as a core in education provided me many opportunities to work with many other leaders in the field of arts education and philanthropic foundations," Parks said, noting that he has traveled to Europe, Africa, Cuba, Serbia, Brazil and throughout the US setting up programs and working with other arts organizations.
Having compassion for giving back to his community, Parks hopes to soon open a youth foundation that will serve as a roll model for young people. He also would like to continue creating art, write, and promote himself as an artist.
Parks is a trustee of the Biggs Museum of American Art, appointed through the governor of Delaware. He has served as a guest speaker for the Congressional Arts Awards in Washington, DC at the Library of Congress. He has also served on the board of the USO and the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Programs in NYC. He's worked with Jean Kennedy Smith and the Very Special Arts Foundation, an organization that works with people with disabilities. He was named Honorary Base Commander for Dover Air Force Base, is the recipient of an Art Educator of the Year Award for the Eastern Region of the US, received the Governor's Award for the Arts for the State of Delaware, received a Presidential Citation and Medal Award from Delaware State University and the, and is also the recipient of two Service Awards, one from from Delaware State University and one from the Mayor of Dover.
