Purchasing Jesses restaurant in Jacksonville, North Carolina with her daughter Rebecca after the current owner decided that he was ready to retire, Diana Leffingwell was excited for the opportunity. Having already had experience working at the restaurant, Rebecca would call her in to work a few days a week when it was really busy. Eight years later, they are still in business today, and it is thriving.
"I wanted to make sure it was God's will, not my own, before the sale of the business went through," Mrs. Leffingwell said. "I love a good challenge and the business has enabled my family and I to rest assured when my husband was no longer able to work anymore."
Ordering food, taking orders, cooking, prepping, handling repairs, hiring and letting go employees, and making sure the restaurant is always running smoothly and customers are happy are daily responsibilities for Mrs. Leffingwell. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, she'll also be found mopping the floors and doing dishes. She prides in doing everything her employees do and enjoys working right alongside them as a team.
Specializing in hotdogs, gyros, hamburgers, melts, cheesesteaks, and other traditional American food, Jesses has learned that the best way to get it right is to do it right. Flavor is important, and customers will be surprised with the variety they offer.
Customers can dine on site or call in for local delivery at 910-455-3647. They also cater on and off site. Located just outside of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Jesses is about 35 miles north of Wilmington, North Carolina and about 35 miles south of New Bern, North Carolina.
Mrs. Leffingwell hopes to have her house recipe, The Monster Melt, on grocery store shelves soon. She may even open up more restaurant locations in the future.
The retired Sergeant of the US Marines, Mrs. Leffingwell served the US from 1977-81, teaching her the discipline, respect, integrity necessary to be a successfully business woman. When it comes to hiring employees, Mrs. Leffingwell credits her five years of experience being a foster parent, which taught her the importance of giving people second chances and the benefit of the doubt. Jesses was voted #2 for hot dogs by The Daily News Readers Achievement Award. Mrs. Leffingwell was also awarded with a Volunteer of the Year Award and a Bases Award.
