Covington Who's Who Selects Cortnie A. DiStefano as a Professional Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

- Buffalo-Niagara Falls, NY (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2014 - Cortnie A. DiStefano, Special Education Teacher at Grabiarz School of Excellence, has been selected as a Professional Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Cortnie A. DiStefano, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Educatsion and Special Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education, both from Canisius College, began her career in 2009 as a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing for Deaf Adult Services in Buffalo, New York. She then taught as a deaf and hard of hearing teacher for two years. She started at East High School and then volunteered to move to Dr. Lydia T. Wright School working as a deaf and hard of hearing teacher for a student with special needs in a fourth grade inclusion class. She worked at City Honors before earning a spot at her current school in special education.
Now a second grade co-teacher of special education students at Grabiarz School of Excellence, Ms. DiStefano helps students to become more productive in the world. She is responsible for making sure all students have acces to the curriculum and are receiving the appropriate accommodations. She also works with students that are struggling with certain topics and gives them additional one-on-one support.
"I, myself, went through the special education system as a child suffering with a form of dyslexia," Ms. DiStefano said. "My mom fought for me to get the help I needed in school, and because of her support I had the decided to be the educator I am today. I understand the students' frustrations and I use my experience to motivate others to reach their potential."
With plans to continue in education for many more years to come, Ms. DiStefano hopes to continue being the best teacher she can. She has made several accomplishments in her field thus far, including receiving a Fearless Fosdick badge at City Honors, having one of the top fourth grade team state test scores in the Buffalo School District, and being given the opportunity to do interpreting in Egypt.
