Christine Hamby, who studied education at Vanderbilt University, began working in retail in 1981 with the convenient store giant, 7-11 as a cashier. Quickly advancing in the field, she was invited to work for Miller Enterprises as a supervisor in Florida. From there, she moved on to her current organization, Dollar General, in West Virginia.
As a training store manager, Ms. Hamby trains new employees on all aspects of running a store, including paperwork, cash handling, freight, store controls, inventory management, and customer service.
"Retail is in my blood," Ms. Hamby admits. "I have a lot of determination and drive to be the best at whatever I do."
With aspirations of continuing to climb the ladder in retail, Ms. Hamby loves to teach and inspire others to have the same passion for their job as she does. She has been featured in numerous articles in several local newspapers for her work and is the recipient of numerous awards including Best Inventory Control and Best Expense Control.
