After earning her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas in 1960, Barbara L. Cox began working as a staff physical therapist at a local hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ms. Cox took her raw experience and forged it into a thriving career, consistently gaining knowledge and expertise. Her profession includes evaluation of patients, designing treatment programs, and the implementation of those programs. Her career afforded her the opportunity to mentor students in training and new graduates just beginning their careers.
Upon progressing to a management level position within a hospital setting, Ms. Cox eventually sought more business experience and personnel management skills. She's enjoyed many dimensions of physical therapy and over the past twenty years she's been affiliated with Skilled Nursing Home and Home Health Care. Thanks to their growing population, Ms. Cox has had the ability to explore geriatrics as her primary interest.
"I have never stopped learning and never will," Ms. Cox said about her successful career in healthcare. "I hope to continue to do some PRN work in the geriatric field and am especially interested in mentoring students and, perhaps, doing consulting work. Documentation review is also a point of interest at this stage of my career."
Although Ms. Cox held several offices in the Texas Physical Therapy Association, she considers her greatest success the quality of patient care she has been able to provide as a therapist and as the measure she expected of the large home health staff and three offices she managed. Ms. Cox taught her staff support and education of caregivers is of equal importance as quality. She and her colleagues are proud of being able to maintain this standard throughout the years.
