- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2013 - Abdoulaye Dione, who earned his BA in English Studies and British Civilization, followed by an MA and PhD in Applied Linguistics, all from the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), began teaching in 1971 in his home country of Senegal, a country located in West Africa, as a middle school English teacher. During that time, he also was expected to teach French, History, and Geography. He later taught high school students throughout his country until becoming a teacher-trainer in 1983 for FASTEF, a branch of his alma mater, UCAD.
During his time as a teacher/trainer, Dr. Dione taught English as a Foreign Language methodology, English for Specific Purposes, and the Phonetics of English and Special Education. He also taught teacher trainees' preparation, where he helped teacher trainees prepare to take full responsibility for their classes through guidance of lesson plans, supervising their fifteen minute micro teaching lessons, observing their full responsibility practicum, and providing them ad hoc feedback. He also taught teacher-trainees' portfolios where he supervised the research work that summed all the classes and extra mural activities they carried as components of the training syllabus.
"The ambition to teach was always there. So I just had to strive to grant myself with the required academic background, the psycho-pedagogical supporting know-how, and professional experience obtainable with constant extended teaching practice," Dr. Dione said about his passion for education. "What kept me going was the renewed feeling at the end of every school year that I had just contributed to shaping youths destined to be the future pillars of their nation."
For just over forty years Dr. Dione dedicated his life and career to vocation. He still plans to continue developing curricula and writing reference books for the University Science and Technology Departments at UCAD, or for any other institution that needs his expertise. He would also love to share his expertise with the international community by working either with a world organization, such as UNO, or multinational with an organization like Coca Cola. A member of numerous organizations, including TESOL, ESL International, and English Language Teachers and Trainers of ELS, Mr. Dione now resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
