Council For Adult And Experiental Learning Names 2013 Learningcounts Ambassador
Renee Dauer to Receive Award at Annual Conference in November. Her support for the Prior Learning Assessment program and Learning Counts has enabled students at Union University's three campuses to earn credit for their knowledge and experiences.
- (1888PressRelease) October 18, 2013 - Chicago - Renee Dauer, Director of Continuing Studies and Assistant Professor in Organizational Leadership at Union University, Hendersonville TN campus, will receive the 2013 LearningCounts Ambassador Award from the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL) at its Annual Conference Nov. 6-8, in San Diego, CA, Pamela Tate, CEO and President of CAEL announced today.
LearningCounts assists adults with their educational endeavors by finding practical ways to earn college credit for learning acquired through training and work experiences. Renee is being recognized for her work with the administrators, faculty and staff at Union University to get LearningCounts implemented and operational.
"Thanks to Renee's tireless enthusiasm and support for Prior Learning Assessment and LearningCounts, Union University students at all three campuses can now easily enroll in the LearningCounts portfolio development course through the Union registration system, and begin their journey to earn college credit for the knowledge and expertise they have amassed," said Tate. "She is most deserving of the Ambassador Award, and we are very proud to present her with it," she added.
Reneé's passion to serve and educate adults drew her to teaching over 25 years ago. She has taught at Volunteer State Community College and Western Kentucky University. Her professional experience also includes work in training and development, public relations and marketing for companies in Middle Tennessee including Dollar General Corporation, J.C. Bradford & Company, and The Visibility Company. In addition, she has conducted corporate training for legal and financial organizations in the Nashville area.
Reneé joined Union University in May 2010, when the adult degree-completion program was launched in Hendersonville. In addition to directing this program and teaching, she is also an instructional facilitator for Union's Extended Learning and Professional Development series of training programs.
One of Renee's goals was to grow the PLA program at Union. In August 2012, she joined the Tennessee PLA Task Force, where she worked with Wilson Finch from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and Chari Leader Kelley from CAEL on the statewide initiative for PLA credit. It was through the PLA Task Force that she learned about LearningCounts.
Reneé earned a BS in Organizational Communication from Ohio University, an MA in Communication from Western Kentucky University, and is currently working on her doctorate in higher education. She is an active member of her community, serving on the Education Committee for the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, and recently launching a community-wide teacher appreciation initiative.
Reneé is also passionately involved in Relay for Life as both a volunteer and survivor. She and her husband, Brett, have lived in Hendersonville for over 20 years.
The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization based in Chicago, Illinois that assists adults with their educational endeavors, finding practical ways to earn college credit for learning acquired through training and work experiences. CAEL works with the public sector, private sector industries and higher education institutions to ensure that adult students receive the most efficient training and education to occupy a meaningful professional place in a 21st century economy. Since 1974, CAEL has assisted colleges and universities in providing college credit for prior learning. CAEL is the recognized national expert on a method known as portfolio assessment, and their Ten Standards for Assessing Learning are used by colleges and universities, as well as accrediting organizations, across the country.
LearningCounts.org is managed by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), and operates with support from Lumina Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the State Street Foundation, the Houston Endowment, USA Funds, and Brown Foundation. The Walmart Foundation is also providing support and funding scholarships for eligible users of LearningCounts.org.
