Corporate Social Responsibility Week (CSR) at The British School
The British School, New Delhi recently held its CSR Week during which 108 students were placed in nine organisations. The programme aims to enable and empower students to take on leadership of service projects and work on building sustainable programmes. It also aims to build the values of service and making a contribution to society.
- (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2011 - The school partnered with Genpact, Save the Children, Tata Consultancy Services, Udayan Care, PVR Nest, GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, Johnson Matthey India Pvt Ltd, Delhi India Pvt Ltd, Monnet Group and Khoj Foundation this year, all of which share the school's vision and ethos and contribute to service programmes in meaningful, productive ways. Placements for the week were organised through friends and members of the school community.
The CSR policy of The British School aims to educate students for life and develop in them a strong sense of responsibility and commitment towards the community. The programme is designed to be informative, interactive and productive for both the students and the children.
'The week with the Khoj Foundation opened my eyes to a whole new world and made me realise and appreciate how fortunate we all are. The entire experience was definitely rewarding for us, as there was no better feeling than seeing the children happy and smiling' says one of the students, GayatriThapar.
Through the week, the students not only taught subjects like maths and English, but also indulged in sports and fun activities with the children. According to ArmanBharti Mittal, 'Choreographing a dance with about 20 students was definitely a highlight at the SamarpanFoundation supported byGenpact'.
In just a short while, the students and the children made as strong connect. In the words of one of the students, 'It was fascinating how the children made us their best friends in one day and took such good care of us. Also, it was inspiring how the children have such high aspirations and are willing to work and fight for it.'
Even though the organisations the students visited were varied, the objective was the same, to givethema chance to connect with people and places that understand the significance of working towards sustainable programmes and betterment of the society.
The placements served as an eye opener for many of the students who got a chance to see the lives of the underprivileged. It alsopresented them with an occasion to carry out a self assessment and understand the importance of giving back to the community.As Mehak Anand, who was placed with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, puts it, 'this experience has changed my perspective towards the less fortunate and has made me want to help and share my knowledge with other less privileged children as well.'
Everyone agreed that this was an experience that could never be taught or expressed through books, computers or words.At the end of the week, both the students and the children came out viewing the world differently and with everlasting memories.
