- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) February 03, 2011 - In celebration of Bob Marley's birthday on February 6th, San Francisco-based rap/jazz/fusion ensemble COPUS has produced video "Natty Dread" featuring music by COPUS along with previously unreleased photos of Bob Marley and the Wailers taken by COPUS spoken word artist Royal Kent. Poet Royal Kent was on the scene at the Santa Barbara Bowl in July 1978 and witnessed the last California performance by Bob Marley and the Wailers at the Oakland Coliseum in 1980. The video also includes photos of Haile Selassie and Marcus Garvey mixed in with live COPUS shots. We all stand on the shoulders of those who proceed us.
COPUS (Creation of Peace Under the Stars) was formed in 1998 when poet Royal Kent and composer Wendy Loomis met at a San Francisco open mic. Since then they have created a body of poetic musical works that have been performed at festivals, colleges, theatres, art galleries, and clubs throughout the Bay Area, Nashville, Los Angeles, Boston, and the 1st Annual WordxWord Festival in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The band additionally includes Monica Williams (flute), Patrick Mahon (bass) and Omar (percussion). "This music could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive." ~Michael Allison, MusicDish.com
