Copthorne Hotel Dubai Mobilises Relief for Syrian Refugees
Embarking on a noble cause, Copthorne Hotel Dubai staff collected over ten boxes of relief material in aid of Syrian refugees displaced as a result of the on-going conflict in their country.
- (1888PressRelease) March 25, 2013 - Mr Alaa Salameh, General Manager, Copthorne Hotel Dubai, said, "Our hotel staff collected more than 10 boxes of clothes, shoes, blankets, toys and other essential material to help the Syrian refugees in Jordan where there has been a huge influx of people."
He added, "This is the third time that we carried out this campaign. We began the initiative in August (Ramadan) 2012 and from then on we have been doing it every three months." The collected materials were subsequently donated to the UAE Red Crescent on March 14, 2013.
This activity comes as part of the hotel's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which as Mr Salameh put it is "an integral part of our business philosophy."
Mr Mohammed Abdullah Alhaj Al Zaroni, Manager of the UAE Red Crescent Dubai Branch, was appreciative of the magnanimity shown by the Copthorne Hotel Dubai staff. Leading the Copthorne initiative was its Human Resources and Training Manager Imelda P. Martinez.
The U.N. refugee agency, UNHCR, has warned that the number of refugees outside Syria could triple by the end of the year - from the present one million - if there is no resolution to the conflict. The millionth refugee was registered recently. Around half their numbers comprise children, most of them under 11.
