  • (1888PressRelease) April 02, 2011 - CONTESA the UK charity which supports aids orphans in Zambia announced today that trustees and supporters of the charity will be visiting existing programmes and projects in Kabwe, Lusaka and Chilanga and also visiting potential new programmes to fund.

The Chair and founder of CONTESA, Esnat Avon, Vice-Chair Dr. Margaret McDermott and trustees Rosemary Stanbury and Dominic Wareham alongside John and Elaine Batt, CONTESA supporters from Canada, will be visiting current and potential CONTESA projects in Zambia over a four week period throughout the month of April 2011.

Esnat Avon, Founder of CONTESA says of this visit "We are very excited to be visiting these projects and to be looking for potentially new programmes that CONTESA can fund. My vision for CONTESA has always been to support local organisations and disadvantaged children through feeding, education, outreach and healthcare programmes, and I believe we are doing that with the help of our trustees, supporters and donors." Avon added "100% of all funds donated go directly to support these disadvantaged children in Zambia and whilst CONTESA is a small charity it has, in the 5 years since it started, made a significant difference in the areas where it is operating, especially at Kabwe. In addition to the feeding and education programmes we have successfully funded 11 capital projects, 4 school blocks, a science block, 3 ablution blocks (toilets and showers) and 3 boreholes across 4 different centres".

CONTESA is currently supporting over 2,500 children orphaned through Aids and disadvantaged children. Another purpose of the visit is to examine how best CONTESA might start skills training for those children who cannot proceed into higher education. Skills, such as carpentry, IT, tailoring and many other vocations to ensure the orphans are equipped with skills that will make them into useful citizens and give them hope for their future.

CONTESA prides itself on having a very personal approach to charity and supporting Zambian partner organisations. CONTESA trustees and supporters regularly visit funded projects in Zambia (at their own expense) so if you would like to support CONTESA and/or accompany the trustees on their next visit, go to CONTESA's website.
