The Alliance is hoping to show and prove to people that responsible forestry is a viable alternative to deforestation.
Furthermore, the Alliance believes that FSC-certification protects forests better than most governments can. For example, in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, the rate of deforestation in government-protected areas is 20 times the rate of deforestation in certified forest communities. It is very evident that deforestation is a major issue in today's world.
