  • (1888PressRelease) July 14, 2010 - Computer Lab Solutions, the software engineering firm whose products are implemented in universities worldwide to aid in the management of large IT networked environments, is announcing today the release of LabStats 5.0 private beta. Reports on login history, application usage, power consumption, and machine history of thousands of machines can all be viewed in real time from one server via LabStats. Available immediately to selected testers, LabStats 5.0 includes new features focused on personalization and ease of use, including customizable hierarchies.

"One of the major changes to LabStats is the hierarchical organization of computers and labs. Stations, or computers, can be placed in labs; labs can be placed in buildings; buildings can be placed in colleges, etc. Stations and groups can be organized according to a licensing scheme; for example, AppUse for the math lab, or JuicePress for the library," said Ken Buska, Director of Technical Operations. "Custom icons can represent each node in the hierarchy to visually distinguish what kind of grouping each item is."

Also, a single license is now all that is necessary to activate all products purchased. "We're most excited to announce the new Auto Update Ability. Users only have to install the 5.0 client once. And only licensed components will run, saving on CPU, memory, and network traffic," said Jon Nelson, a Software Representative. "On-demand actions can now be sent to clients, such as shut down and wake-up, without relying on the client to check in first."

Updates also include a zooming feature for the timeline of statistics gathered by LabStats. Users can now zoom through the different time charts and they can be viewed in a yearly, monthly, daily, or 15 minute format. Report settings have been enhanced and customized reports can be saved and viewed later for convenience of comparing with other reports.

A revamped scheduling system has been applied to JuicePress, the energy saving software that allows IT administrators to employ green computing in their labs. A revamped report and schedule generation offers users more convenience when customizing the aesthetic of reports.

LabMaps, software that allows IT administrators to create a map of their labs so students may find an open computer quickly and efficiently, now includes customizable icons and colors to represent computers. Users can click and drag multiple selections at one time. Maps can now be displayed in full screen mode (such as on a large monitor at the entrance to a lab), and resized the same way one would resize a window. In addition to these customizable features, the API is exposed so users can create their own personalized solutions using data collected by LabStats.

Selected beta testers get to enjoy immediate release of LabStats 5.0. Current LabStats customers with maintenance who'd like to express interest in an invite to private beta may contact Computer Lab Solutions at info ( @ ) computerlabsolutions dot com.
